The Challenge

Every Plate,
Every Cycle, the Same.

Ceramic body preparation dewaters clay, feldspar and quartz slip into a plastic cake whose moisture must be the same across every plate and every cycle, because every variation shows up later as a reject at pugging, pressing or firing. DFR Technical Textiles weaves heavy-duty slip press cloths that drain evenly, release the cake cleanly and stand up to daily high-pressure cycles.

Three Problems
We Are Asked to Fix.

Problem

Uneven cake moisture

How our cloth helps

Uniform, heat-set weaves drain evenly across the whole plate, so every cake leaves the press at the same moisture, with fewer rejects at pugging and pressing.

Problem

Cake sticking to the cloth

How our cloth helps

A smooth, calendered face lets the plastic body cake peel off cleanly on opening: faster discharge, and no cake left to dry on the cloth.

Problem

Cloth tearing under repeated pressing

How our cloth helps

High-tenacity polyester and PP yarns, with reinforced necks and edges, stand up to daily high-pressure cycles on large plates.

Process Position

Where DFR
Adds Value.

Our cloths work at the slip press, where body moisture, and the reject rate downstream, is decided.

Heaps of grey clay, pink feldspar and white quartz in front of a ball mill

Ball Milling

Clay, feldspar and quartz are milled to slip.

Slip Storage

Slip is aged and blunged to a stable suspension.

Slip Press Dewatering

DFR cloths drain evenly for uniform body cake moisture.

Body Cake to Shaping

Cake released cleanly from every plate goes on to the pug mill, casting or pressing.

Three Filtration Duties
